Volume and Chargeable Weight Calculator

Enter the dimensions and weight; see the volume and which weight counts in air, road and sea freight.

For light but bulky cargo the charge is based on the space it takes up, not on its actual weight. Enter the dimensions and see which weight counts in each mode. There are no prices here: the carrier sets the tariff.

Volume and Weight

Enter the dimensions of one piece and the number of pieces. Add the weight and it also tells you which one counts.

Enter the three dimensions; the volume appears here.

These divisors are common practice; a carrier or courier may use a different one (such as 5000). Ask for the tariff for an exact figure.

Three Modes, Three Sums

The same carton is charged at a different weight in each mode.

Air freight

Width × length × height (cm) ÷ 6000. One cubic metre counts as about 167 kg; if the actual weight is higher, that is used.

Road (groupage, parcel)

Width × length × height (cm) ÷ 3000. One cubic metre counts as about 333 kg; it is compared with the actual weight and the higher one is used.

Sea (LCL)

In a shared container the freight unit is the cubic metre or the tonne: 1 m³ equals 1,000 kg and you pay for whichever is greater. A full container is charged per container.
