Pallet Dimensions
Euro, industrial and half pallet sizes — plus how many pallets fit a trailer and the loading-metre calculation.
Pallet Types
Footprints are standard (EPAL / ISO 6780); the count for a 13.60 m trailer is for a single layer.
Euro pallet (EUR 1)
- Footprint
- 80 × 120 cm
- Loading metres
- 0.40
- In a 13.60 m trailer
- 33 pallets
The standard pallet of Europe and Türkiye; trailers are designed around it. It weighs about 25 kg empty and carries a safe load of 1,500 kg.
Industrial pallet (EUR 2 / EUR 3)
- Footprint
- 100 × 120 cm
- Loading metres
- 0.50
- In a 13.60 m trailer
- 26 pallets
Common for beverages, chemicals and heavy industry; the wider footprint means fewer fit in a trailer.
Half pallet (EUR 6)
- Footprint
- 60 × 80 cm
- Loading metres
- 0.20
- In a 13.60 m trailer
- 66 pallets
Half a Euro pallet; used for in-store displays and small consignments. Two half pallets take the space of one Euro pallet.
US pallet (48 × 40 in)
- Footprint
- 101.6 × 121.9 cm
- Loading metres
- 0.52
- In a 13.60 m trailer
- 26 pallets
The standard pallet of the US and Canada; you meet it on imports. Its size is very close to the industrial pallet.
Asia pallet (square)
- Footprint
- 110 × 110 cm
- Loading metres
- 0.50
- In a 13.60 m trailer
- 24 pallets
Common on Far East cargo and inside containers; being square, it loads the same way in either direction.
How Many Pallets Fit?
Pick the pallet and the vehicle; enter a quantity to see loading metres and fill as well.
This vehicle takes up to 33 pallets.
Dimensions are industry averages and vary by make and body. Overhang, lashing and stack height must be allowed for separately.
Good to Know
Three rules of palletised freight.
What is a loading metre?
A loading metre (LDM) is one metre of trailer length across the full loading width (2.4 m). A pallet’s loading metres are its footprint divided by 2.4: a Euro pallet is 0.4 LDM, an industrial pallet 0.5. Part-load freight is usually quoted per loading metre.
Stackable freight
Pallets that can be stacked load two high on the same floor area, halving the loading metres. Stacking is limited by the strength of the goods, the internal height and the weight limit; if the shipper says “non-stackable”, nothing goes on top.
Volume or weight?
A standard trailer carries about 24 tonnes. Across 33 Euro pallets that is roughly 730 kg per pallet; heavier pallets hit the weight limit before the floor is full. With light, bulky freight the floor runs out first.
